Context: Male infertility is a real public health problem. Among the causes of infertility, there is oligospermia which occupies an important place, representing 40%. For the treatment of male fertility disorders, the “Sêyon” center uses a product called “Edjo” consisting of a combination of the roots of Cissus populnea and the fruit Musa paradisiaca. Objectives: To assess the effect of the product “Edjo” on spermatogenesis in the Wistar albino rat. Materials and Methods: Three lot of six pubescence male rats aged 8 to 10 weeks weighing approximately 180 g were treated with 500 mg / ml / kg of “Edjo”, the reference product Fertilo ® at 500 mg / ml / kg, and distilled water for 30 days. The sperm count was carried out on the epididymal shredded product, the interleukin 6 assay and the chronic toxicity were carried out on rat serum. Results: The “Edjo” extract contains two phytochemicals, tannins and flavones capable of stimulating spermatogenesis. The treatment allows an increase in the concentration of sperm without presenting toxicity. Analysis of the histological sections of the testes of rats suggests that this phyto-drug enhances the activity of Sertoli cells in the spermiation process during spermatogenesis. Conclusion: The study herbal medicine improves sperm parameters by stimulating spermatogenesis.
