From my point of view, 2011 has been a very fruitful year for this journal and the outstanding level of research and advances that have been achieved in the area of pharmacognosy research is very encouraging. I am happy to report that our publication Pharmacognosy Research continues to thrive, in 2011 we had a total of 151 articles submitted comprised of short communications, editorials, letters to the editor and of course original articles. Of the 132 articles submitted during the year just under a third were accepted for publication indicating the high standards of those selected articles that were committed to print. Many research groups have been very helpful in suggesting suitable scientists as reviewers. I would like to thank the promptness and thoroughness of our review panel. On average, following submission of a paper from a research group, reviewers return with a verdict within 3 weeks. I am also particularly pleased to report that the period of time from first submission to acceptance of journal articles is on average 11 weeks which is prompt enough to allow the unsuccessful authors to seek publication elsewhere. Once an article has been accepted it is then published usually within (again) an 11-week period, thus this journal allows for quite an efficient turnover from submission to final print. In fact we have eight research groups who have submitted more than one article this year to our journal; undoubtedly a sign of satisfaction.

I am also very satisfied to disclose that we have 445 authors registered with our online site at present [http://www.journalonweb.com/pr] and this demonstrates the vibrant interest in the field of Pharmacognosy. We are hoping next year to increase our number of registrations and we wish to continue to expand our circulation. It is part of the mission of this journal to form a network of researchers from different locations for the dissemination and sharing of both common and diverse, but complimentary knowledge. It is, therefore, of immense importance for our journal that it is accepted internationally. During the past 12 months nearly 40% of our papers have been from international researchers and we are hoping that this trend will continue. This journal received 31 citations in other publications this year from the original articles published in 2010 and we are focused on increasing our impact factor significantly in the coming years.

As we approach the end of 2011, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our contributors and supporters over the past year for the continued success of this journal. I would also like to thank our Managing Editor, Dr. Mueen Ahmed KK, for his vision and kind direction and all who work on this journal. I wish you a very happy, healthy, prosperous and industrious 2012.
